Dallas Cowboys' Nose Tackle, Josh Brent, Arrested After Killing Teammate in DUI Car Accident

Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent has been booked for intoxication manslaughter after a late night car accident left his passenger and Cowboys teammate Jerry Brown dead.

The one-car accident happened at around 2:20AM on Saturday (Dec. 8) morning. Brent was cruising down State Highway 114 near Irving, Texas when his car hit a curb and flipped over. According to reports, Brent was responsive when police arrived on the scene, but his passenger, 25-year-old Jerry Brown, a linebacker added to the Cowboys' practice squad this past October, was not moving. (Brown and Brent had been teammates prior at the University of Illinois.)

Brown was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Irving, TX police suspected that alcohol was in play and administered a field sobriety test, which led to Brent's arrest. His DUI charge was upgraded to one count of intoxication manslaughter once Brown was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing. Sadly, Brent had been arrested on a DUI charge in college.

Brent has played 12 games with the Cowboys this season and had 35 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

"We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown," said Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in a statement. "At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry's family and all of those who knew him and loved him." The Cowboys will still play the Cincinnati Bengals in Ohio this Sunday.

This NFL tragedy comes on the heels of last week's murder/suicide of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher. Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend last weekend before taking his own life in front of his Chiefs coach and the team's general manager.
