The real life Hugh Hefner has played himself on shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, The House Bunny, and Entourage. It seems that now casting directors will have to look for a man to match the myth in this new biopic about the legendary Playboy.
David Dobkin is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the untitled biopic, from a script by Peter Morgan (Rush).
This has all been in the works for a few years already, having originally being housed over at Universal with Imagine Entertainment producing and Brett Ratner directing. The film had never got made and Warner Bros. picked it up quick, fast, and in a hurry.
Now that Dobkin's attached, the project is looking to begin production, casting and the like. Who will slip into The Hef's infamous robe and slippies has yet to be seen. In the past, Hugh Jackman and Robert Downey Jr. were up for the role back when the movie was set up at Universal, but since it has changed houses there haven't been any names mentioned since. Also not mentioned were any plot specifics. So, we don't know if the film will take place during the height of Playboy's career or the magazine's foundation in 1953.
