In the midst of a battle with Whitney Houston’s family regarding the upcoming film on the vocal powerhouse’s life, Lifetime has enlisted Deborah Cox for its soundtrack. As “music rights and clearances are still being worked out” according to the network, Cox has instead covered Houston’s hits for the project.

Now, TMZ has obtained audio of Cox’s version to the late singer’s classic ballad “I Will Always Love You.” Also serving as the movie’s title track, this cover will likely be featured at a climactic point in the film, which has been centered around Houston’s relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Angela Bassett shared her intentions on portraying the legend’s life.

“We’re not interested in dragging her life again through, you know, the muck,” she said. “She had to play out her choices, and the consequences of them, in a very hot, glaring spotlight, but we’re not interested in dragging that through again.”

I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story is slated to premiere in 2015. Listen to Deborah Cox’s “I Will Always Love You” below.
