Visual artist Greg Mike may have been reared on Disney cartoons and comic books, but the Connecticut-bred designer has turned his talents into a fortitude.

Nearing the end of Miami’s annual Art Basel 2012, Mike ushered in the Basel Castle, a three-year street carnival that continues to bring art to life. “[Basel Castle] is an event that we’ve been co-producing for three years,” says Mike of this year’s Wynwood exhibit. “There’s a courtyard and we have a bunch of live artists painting, everybody from Ron English, Anthony Lister, Buff Monster, Sharp Tooth…We have some carnival games also that artists design that users are able to interact with.”

Underground’s most buzzworthy pumped up the vibes with performances from a funky mash-up of Twin Shadow, Trinidad James, and Purity Ring. The block party waged on into the wee hours of the morning with the 12,000 in attendance jamming to the sights and sounds of unique art.

“My favorite part of Basel is just seeing the community come together, the energy that’s created during the experience,” he says. “It’s literally that time of the year when I see people from all over the world that I’ve built relationships with because of Basel…It really helps inspire and push forward the creative process.”
