Did Mos Def Sell Out For a Cell Phone Company?

Posted March 22, 2010

Wanna make money as a rapper today? Then you have to do more than just rap. So while Mos Def might have been committing career suicide a decade ago by allowing his song, "Quiet Dog Bite Hard," from last year's The Ecstatic, to be used in a commercial for Palm (the company behind the new Palm Pre Plus), today it's just a good business move. Still, it's a little hard to believe that a song from one of the original Rawkus Records rappers is now being used as the soundtrack for a commercial campaign, no?

Check out the commercial below that started airing over the weekend to see the song in action. And then tell us what you think: Good or bad move for Mos? —Chris Yuscavage
