DJ Burn One Talks His “Pimp C Sound” on ‘Beyond The Booth’

/ August 6, 2013

Beyond the Booth host Maurice Garland heads to Atlanta’s Super Sound Music to interview DJ Burn One. Burn One, who’s crafted tunes for Gucci Mane, Yelawolf, Freddie Gibbs, A$AP Rocky and more, got his start in the ATL hip-hop scene by ringing up LPs behind the store’s counter. He talks with Garland about country rap and his misconstrued “Pimp C sound.”

“To me, it really just means the blues in hip-hop,” says DJ Burn One. “It’s like soul music for rap.”

Beyond the Booth is an original web series that will interview prominent folks in the ATL hip-hop scene in the lead up to October’s A3C (All 3 Coasts) hip-hop festival. Now in its ninth year, A3C will take over ATL’s Old 4th Ward, Little 5 Points and East Atlanta Village between Oct. 2 and 6. Check out the A3C 2013 lineup here.
