Frankie Knuckles has tragically passed away Tuesday March 31, 2014 at age 59. According to reports first made by 5 Magazine, he died in Chicago – the very city where Frankie’s live DJ sets revolutionized house music. While the cause of his death remains unclear, some suspect it was due to complications caused by Diabetes.

Fellow DJ legend David Morales then tweeted: “I am devastated to write that my dear friend Frankie Knuckles has passed away today. Can’t write anymore than this at the moment. I’m sorry.”

Known to many as the “Godfather of House Music,” Frankie Knuckles was a crate carrying, vinyl spinning, cross fading innovator of the Chicago House sound. His passing is one palpably felt by the countless DJs and fans in mourning – many of which, have been praying to Knuckles’ DJ altar since the ‘70s.

From remixing with Morales in the ‘90s to his triumphant takeover at Sound Factory in NYC circa Junior Vasquez’s reign at the behemoth club, which this editor eagerly attended, fake ID in hand, ready for “the night of her life.” Frankie always delivered the feel-good music.

Thanks to Frankie Knuckles, an entire era as well as people spawning from Chi-Town to the UK to NYC, has been given countless nights of their lives. The VIBE fam pays tribute to his life and impact on the music community, which will live on forever Beyond the Mix.

R.I.P. Frankie Knuckles. We’ll “Keep on Moving” and of course, “Whistling” for you.
