DJ Paul Talks ‘A Person Of Interest,’ Why Twitter Takes Work & His BBQ Sauce

Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul has a loaded plate. With his album A Person Of Interest now in stores, T-shirts designed by Supreme and a special line of BBQ sauce on deck, the food-loving spitter is definitely expanding his brand’s palette but the main course will always be music.

“Fans will be surprised that it’s still rockin’ after 22 years,” the Hall of Fame inductee told VIBE about his new LP. “This is what doing these underground albums are for: doing what the hardcore fans want to hear.”

The Memphis rapper also shot a short film with his album about being stalked by a girl on Twitter, an aspect of the business he feels is more suited for the young gunners. “[To me] it’ easier to buy a $6,000 ad in a magazine and sell a million [units],” he says. “These days, you gotta talk to 100 kids everyday on Twitter. It’s cool but it’s like everybody in the world got your phone number and when you don’t talk to them, they get mad and you don’t even know who it is.”

Besides adjusting to social media, DJ Paul has finally perfected his own self-made BBQ sauce that brings the flavor of his city to any piece of meat. “It’s a recipe I created on my own over the years because I love dry rubs and Memphis is known for BBQ rubs.”
