It hasn’t been a great week for DMX. The rapper, real name Earl Simmons, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after being arrested in South Carolina last week.

“DMX’s financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years,” his rep says in a statement.

Washington Post reports that Simmons lists less than $50,000 in assets and $1 to $10 million in debt. The Mount Vernon rep also owes $1.24 million in child support and more than $21,000 on an auto lease, among other financial troubles.

“Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport,” the rep adds. “The purpose of this bankruptcy filing is for reorganization so he can perform for his fans oversees. We are currently planning a tour in Europe and Africa for the fall of 2013.” According to the U.S. Department of State, you cannot get a passport if you owe $2,500 or more in child support.

X was arrested Friday (July 26) on suspicion of driving under the influence in South Carolina.
