Former police officer Drew Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison Thursday for the murder of his third wife.
Peterson was convicted in 2012, and his motion for a mistrial was denied. Peterson was convicted in Illinois, which does not have a death penalty, so he will not face capital punishment for murdering his wife Kathleen Savio in 2004.
The 59-year-old Peterson first came to national prominence in 2007 after the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson. He has not been charged in that case, but Stacy's disappearance caused police to look deeper into the death of Kathleen, which was originally classified as an accident.
Drew Peterson had an outburst in the court room, screaming "I did not kill Kathleen!" after the Judge handing down sentencing.
