With word just breaking that the New York City Marathon has been cancelled, count Dwyane Wade among those that think there are things more important than sports after the destruction of Hurricane Sandy. D-Wade and the Heat are in town to play the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, but Wade is not happy.

“I just felt that (there were) bigger things to be concerned about than us being here to play a basketball game,” Wade said Friday. “Obviously, sports … takes people’s minds away from things, but I think there are bigger things that need to be done here in this city.”

The game is still on for tonight, but Wade says he will donate his game check directly to Hurricane Sandy relief. Wade makes $209,536.59 per game – that’s a lot of money for the Red Cross!
