Vertical Entertainment aims to bring the highly anticipated comedy, Gay Best Friend to theaters next week. VIBE is lucky to have an exclusive look at the trailer, which stars Sasha Pieterse, Joanna "JoJo" Levesque, and Natasha Lyonne.
When social warfare breaks out in a suburban high school, it leaves the head bosses in charge who rule the school up to compete for the year's must-have teen girl accessory — the G.B.F.
After an enthusiastic opening at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, the film has grown in cult favor as it will next be shown in theaters on January 17, 2014. Directed by Darren Stein (Jawbreaker), Gay Best Friend tells the story of two closeted best friends, Tanner (Michael J. Willett) and Brent (Paul Iacono).
While one vies for the popularity that comes with being in high school, the other believes that by flying below the radar he would survive high school without ever being noticed. A hitch in both parties plan happens and the two B.F.F.s become instant frenemies, as the three most popular girls in school Fawcett (Sasha Pieterse), Caprice (Xosha Roquemore) and 'Shley (Andrea Bowen) create all-out hell in order to win one gay best friend.
"G.B.F. is a coming of age film that's reminiscent of movie classics set in high school, but with a modern twist," said Vertical Entertainment's Rich Goldberg. "We are excited to acquire this film and bring this film to all platforms."
