The Academy is looking to keep from looking like the creepy old guy on TV by announcing that funnyman Seth MacFarlane will be hosting the 85th annual Academy Awards show.
Last year, consummate host Billy Crystal emceed, making it the actor's ninth time on stage, yet this will be MacFarlane's first time leading Hollywood's biggest event. "We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars," the Academy released as a statement on its website. "His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh. He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."
MacFarlane, who has increased his public profile over the past few years, serving as "Roastmaster" on Comedy Central and recently holding down Saturday Night Live as its host, is equally ecstatic to be apart of the award festivities. "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," said MacFarlane. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out that I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
Anyone familiar with Seth MacFarlane's brand of humor and comedic timing will be excited to see what the Family Guy creator can do live on stage. The 85th Academy Awards will air Sunday, February 24, 2013.
