The fiance of Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Kandi Burruss, was killed Friday night (October 2), following a fight in an ATL night club.
According to My Fox Atlanta, A.J. Jewell was involved in a brawl at Atlanta night club Body Tap, suffering severe head injuries. He was rushed to Piedmont Hospital, where he later died.
According to police, Fredrick Richardson, an employee at the strip club, is charged with voluntary manslaughter and currently being held at Grady Detention in connection with the crime.
Kandi is a Grammy Award-winning singer and former member of the '90s girl group Xscape. She joined the second season of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Atlanta as a replacement for housewife Deshawn Snow.
According to Wikipedia, she began dating A.J. in early 2009, and months into their relationship, they were engaged.
However, tensions began to rise between the couple "over Jewell having six children of his own." In August, they called off their engagement, but remained "good friends," according to Jewell.
While Burruss has requested privacy, she commented on the incident via her Twitter account.
"I could never in a million years imagine this happening," the former XScape member wrote. "Please pray for A.J.'s children... that's who I'm the most concerned for. I'm about to give my swollen eyes some rest now. I just wanted to say thanks two everyone for their prayers."
In an interview with VIBE in August, Burruss spoke about her relationship with Jewell.
"He's just a good dude. We always have fun together. He would bring the kids around. And I like kids. So anytime a man is around his kids and has a good relationship with the kids, to me, that gives him cool points," she said.
