Jesse “Hi-Rez” Friednman is the Bronx bred, Florida buttered emcee whose flow is thematically gripping and shot off like semi-automatic firearm. With five mix-tapes released, the 20-year-old sells out shows effortlessly across the country, opening for artists like Meek Mill, Wale, Machine Gun Kelly and Asher Roth along with headlining tours of his own.
Rez is primed and ready to release his debut EP, ‘Beautiful Struggle’ on May 13 (Penalty Entertainment/Sony Red). “I’ve come to the realization that there is more to the entertainment industry than meets the eye,” says Rez. “I’m thankful for everything God has given me and protected me from. I’ve taken something I love and turned it into a career and with that comes a lot of responsibility. For me, every day is a beautiful struggle.”
The EP depicts the young rapper’s complicated balancing act between fame, easy women, fake friends and cash juxtaposed with his own internal turmoil, conspiracy theories and fears of selling out.
From the strip club goer to the hip-hop philosopher, ‘Beautiful Struggle’ is a seven-track amalgam, which is a sturdy step up to Rez’s foreseeably bright future.
