Former Rangers Owner Dies

Former Texas Rangers owner Brad Corbett died Monday, the AP reports.

According to his daughter, the former Rangers owner died despite not being sick recently. Corbett was the owner of the Rangers from 1974-1980, a time of particular turmoil for the team. Corbett hired and fired six managers in six seasons, including four alone in 1977. That team still won 94 games despite changeover at the helm, and the team had four winning seasons in those six years.

The Rangers released a statement after their former owner died, saying in part: "The Texas Rangers are saddened to hear of the death of Brad Corbett. His tenure as owner was marked by a passion and drive to bring a winning team to the fans of North Texas."

Corbett made his money in plastics before purchasing the team.
