Freeway Talks 'Made In America', Beanie Sigel, Meeting Nas (PG.2)
When was the last time y'all performed before that?
I think the last time we performed might've been...he did a little tour for "American Gangster." He did New York, we did LA, he did like three dates and we were on that joint with him. That was the last time before MIA.
The good thing about that was when Jay did the whole announcement about it in Philly. I had hit him up that Saturday before like ‘I heard you coming to the city to do a big announcement.’ He was like ‘Don't tell nobody because it isn't publicized yet.’ When I went down there, and I was onstage with him and the mayor and a couple other people I wasn't really dressed for that. So I stepped out of the picture, and they were trying to say Jay kicked me out the picture. They tried to turn it into a joke, so when I got the call to perform at Made In America I was like ‘Yes!’ We are going to shut everybody up. I was real happy about that.
I heard through the grapevine that Beans was supposed to come out with y'all…
I heard that, too. I didn't hear it from Jay but I heard from people that was working on it. Beans’ manager told me that they were really trying to work on it and make it happen, so I'm not 100% sure that it was going to happen but I'm definitely not 100% sure that it wasn't going to happen.
Have you had a chance to reach out to Beanie since he's been locked up?
The last time I talked to him was when he had a court case for the new case that he caught and I had went down there to make sure everything was alright with him and his family. I be in touch with his wife so hopefully he beats this new case and comes home on his normal time.
Are you working on anything else with State Property?
I’m working on a mixtape with Neef called ‘With or Without a Deal.’ Get ready for that!
I know die-hard Roc fans are going to trip over that. Is there anybody you still want to collabo with outside the family?
I would like to collaborate with Dre, Em, and Nas. I would love to collaborate with Nas on a Jake One beat.
You ever had a chance to meet Nas… after you dissed him [laughs]?
Yeah I got a chance to meet him. Cool story, so everybody knows I dissed Nas a couple times when he was riding for Jay or whatever, but I always loved Nas’ music. But I was riding for the team no matter what. So we was at the video shoot for "Roc Boys" after he and Jay got cool. We were leaving out at the same time, so I stopped him and I was like 'Yo I love your music dawg' and he was like 'I love your music too.' So he gave me a pound and we embraced each other. I just seen him in Philly a couple weeks ago performing at the Electric Factory.
So being that you were a Nas fan the whole time, did it hurt back then to have to have dissed him?
It hurt but it was like helping me be a man at the same time, like you do things that you don't want to do but you got to do it.
One last thing man we gotta settle this… the Philly cheese-steak debate. Is it Geno's, Pat's, Jim's or Ishkabibbles for the best cheesesteak?
Number one cheese steak is Delassandros I think it's on Henry Avenue. It’s not downtown. People don't talk about it because it probably takes like 15 minutes to get there from downtown. Better than all of that, trust me
