You guys already know we think Solange is cooler than her big sister, Beyoncé. She’s the indie ying to Queen B’s mega pop yang. So when she put her doobie wrapped stamp of approval on experimental rock band, Dirty Projectors, we listened with eager ears.
The Brooklyn-based group--comprised of leader Dave Longstreth (who chose their name after a job cleaning projection equipment), Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, Brian McOmber, Nat Baldwin and Haley Dekle--has been spreading their innovative garage rock sound since 2002 but signed to Domino Records in 2008. A year later, they dropped their critically acclaimed Bitte Orca. TIME Magazine declared it the second best album of 2009.
The set featured their both quizzical and orchestral jam, “Stillness is the Move.” It’s one Solange enjoyed so much that she decided to remix it, singing the lyrics over Erykah Badu’s “Bag Lady” instrumentals. Check out the original and then peep Solange's version. –Brad Wete
