Full Clip: Just Blaze Runs Down His Most Important Tracks

Posted October 15, 2010

If there were such a thing as anonymous success, veteran producer Just Blaze would surely fit the bill. The low key talent who has dropped anthems for everyone from Jay-Z to Eminem has managed to stay relevant at a time when most producers are lucky to even break one-hit wonder status. From his newly-built, state-of-the-art Harlem compound Stadium Red, Just runs down his most notable tracks from his 13-year career.—Keith Murphy

“I Really Like It” (1999)—Mase & Harlem World

“["I Really Like It"] is not normally the kind of song I would have done. But I knew it would get me in door between the familiar [New Edition’s “Popcorn Love”] sample and just the overall sound of it. I still had a day job at that time, so it was one of those things where I had become friends with part of Mase’s management team. It was a great feeling because my first time out I got paid a decent amount of money for the beat and it sold 500,000 records. But how do I personally feel about the record? I personally love it because it’s what got me started, but it’s not the kind of record I would normally be a fan of. I just did what I had to do to get my foot in the door.”
