It seems as though Drumline is the next throwback flick to get the green light for a sequel. Drumline: A New Beat (the title as of right now) will be headed to VH1 this fall, with Nick Cannon both co-starring and executive producing the TV movie. He proudly made the announcement himself via Instagram video, posed next to a row of skilled percussionists.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, unlike the 2002 flick, this version will focus on a female lead -- Dani Bolton from Brooklyn -- and her decision to defy her parents, go to school in New Orleans and bring a once-prominent drumline back to life.
Aside from Cannon, feature producers include Wendy Finerman, Jody Gerson and Dallas Austin, and Regina Hicks and Karin Gist will be writing the new script.
