Ginuwine On Posthumous Aaliyah Album: 'Leave That Alone'

Camille Augustin Posted September 27, 2012

As we've seen in the past few weeks, not everyone totally supports the idea of Drake executive-producing a posthumous Aaliyah album. That includes Ginuwine.

In an interview with entertainment website LivinTheHustle.com, the R&B singer laid his thoughts on the table when asked about the contentious project. “I don’t think he should do it," said Ginuwine. "I don’t agree with it."

Ginuwine -- who frequently collaborated with Aaliyah in the '90s -- added: "I think he should just leave that alone. I keep hearing about it. I’m not too much up on it but I know a little bit about it. I do know that he’s disrespecting Chris and that’s just not her legacy. That’s not how her legacy should be played out. I don’t think he should use her to paddle anybody."

10 PRODUCERS WHO WOULD DO NEW AALIYAH ALBUM JUSTICE

Ginuwine’s sentiments side with those of Aaliyah's close friends and collaborators Missy Elliot and Timbaland, who stated that they should be involved in the album in some capacity, but that the consent of Aaliyah’s family would be the deciding factor.

G. did acknowledge Drake’s musical talents and called him a “great artist” but believes Drizzy “can get more creative than that…” when it comes to producing the late singer’s music.
