Girl Talk aka Gregg Gillis has teamed up with “one of his favorite rappers,” Freeway to create the highly anticipated EP 'Broken Ankles' set to be released this fall immediately after completion on datpiff.com.
The album will be Girl Talk’s first release since his 2010 hit “All Day.” Over the last three years he’s been busy exploring new sounds and genres of music to work with, in order to take his music to the next level. He described his new found musical journey as being “liberating and exciting” and something he’s always wanted to do. Throughout his travels the Pittsburgh musician experimented with different samples and techniques of manipulating those tracks, including using more of the original instrumentals in his songs. By the end of his hiatus Girl Talk had collected over 70 new beats, with which he approached the Philadelphia rapper Freeway with to use on a new project together.
Gregg’s vision for “Broken Ankles” was for it to be effortlessly diverse and work well as a whole, as well as complimenting Freeway’s dynamic flow. The album took two months to record and after all the time Girl Talk spent putting together ideas for the tracks, he considers the finished project the “most fully realized and evolved manifestation” of his vision yet. The pair debuted one of their collaborations “Tolerated” last weekend in New York to a surprised crowd, see the video footage below.
