It was only a matter of time before the "Harlem Shake" madness started to rake in some real financial success.
Nine months after it was first released, Baauer's fad-friendly dance hit has reached the No.1 spot on iTunes. Perhaps, it was the Flosstradamus and Just Blaze co-signs, or maybe it was the recent Azaelia Banks remix controversy and her recent follow-up video, maybe the meme, or the thousands of "Harlem Shake" videos being uploaded to YouTube daily. There's this underwater one from the UGA swim team, this office version, this Star Wars version, this army version, or this excellent one from indie rock duo Matt & Kim taped during and before a their concert.
Whichever the reason, the song has reached the top of the charts and doesn't seem like it's going anywhere soon. The original dance which had urban kids across the country shaking, looks nothing like the new craze which is closer to a convulsion.
