After some hardcore campaigning, rapper Slim Thug was finally granted his own day in his hometown of Houston thanks to mayor Annise Parker and City Council Member Jerry Davis.

February 25 was declared Slim Thug Day, just three years after fellow Texan rapper Bun B was honored with his own day in H-Town. In honor of the rapper’s philanthropic work in the city including annual food drives, his home town will now celebrate the influence he’s had on his community each year, Houston’s KHOU reports.

Slim Thug recently spoke to CNN about the meaning of the word “thug” and described one as a person who came from nothing to something, though it may be a roadblock to bigger opportunities.

“The name that I chose as my rap name, it stops me from getting a lot of endorsements and things like this,” Slim Thugga said.

Despite his rap moniker, nothing has stopped him from getting his own spot on the calendar.
