Ibiza United Black and White Festival 2012 Recap

For a summer that has seen it all at Governors Island, Ibiza United closed out the venue’s concert season by bringing out a party crowd hungry for deep house this past Columbus Day Weekend. Fans got fashionable in layers to brave light showers and chilly temps that got down into the 50’s (Fahrenheit).

The Black and White themed two-day event, which originally began as South America’s most renowned festival, paid homage to some of the biggest names in underground dance music. Saturday’s “Black” festival featured an extended set from Jamie Jones, who brought in volumes of funk that he isknown for on his collaborative Hot Creations label. The Detroit-based Carl Craig, considered to be one of the most influential contributors to the scene’s second generation of techno, closed out the night before fans ventured into the city for his own after-hours set at a previously undisclosed loft location.

Sunday saw even colder temps and more precipitation than the day before, but once headliner Jonathan Peters took the stage, opening with his classic “Going through it” – the party was on.

Summer season at Governor’s Island may be over, but that just means more club shows are on their way to get New Yorker’s through the dark and cold months of winter. This weekend showed that Deep House is setting some serious roots in New York City, once again proving why New York is one of the best cities in the world to be a die-hard concert-goer.
