Director Pierre Morel has already attracted quality actors Sean Penn and Javier Bardem for his action-thriller The Gunman, and now there is the distinct likelihood that Idris Elba will squad up with them.
Based on Jean-Patrick Manchette's gritty novel, Penn plays a lethal secret operative who is betrayed by his organization. It is that life-altering moment that spawns a cat-and-mouse game across the Europe bloc as Penn's character seeks revenge against those who wronged him, while his former employers engage in attempting to take him out.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Idris Elba is now in talks to play a mysterious fellow operative called Dupont. While there is no word on whether he'll be an assist for the film's hero, or if he'll be helping the organization track Penn down, Morel adds another quality piece to his growing ensemble film.
With a script penned by Pete Travis, The Gunman is set to start shooting in Barcelona and other European cities later this month.
Elba will next be seen in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim (out July 12) and will return to the land of Asgard as Heimdall in Thor: The Dark World, which arrives on November 8. The acting heartthrob will also play Nelson Mandela in the biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, which will impact screens here November 29th, 2013.
