J. Cole Talks Choosing His Album Title & Trey Songz Collabo

Posted July 5, 2011

J. Cole got cornered on his tour bus for a quick update on his forthcoming debut Cole World: The Sideline Story.

Catchup on the North Carolina spitter's briefing.

On choosing his album title:
“I actually wanted to do
Cole World for the second album title, but by the time people started suggesting it, it just kinda went all the way out the window,” he told Rap-Up TV. “When I came up with an album title that I actually liked, it wasThe Sideline Story. But it felt incomplete. I felt like, ‘Oh man, let’s make it a series and make Cole World the Star Wars [with sub-titles].’ Cole World is something that my fans recognize and they love and I love it too.”

On his collaboration with Trey Songz:
“That song is a very, very good song and it’s fun. It's sexy in it's own way."

On touring with Rihanna:
“Your goal is that by the end of your performance, you want to have won over the people that are watching you. I feel like I’m doing a good job so far. It’s way, way different from doing the hip-hop clubs and venues that we’re used to.”
