J. Cole Talks Out-Selling Kanye West And Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse
Despite pushing the world to grab a tissue box with his “Crooked Smile” visual, there are still some things about J. Cole that has left us scratching our heads. First, there’s that squabble with Diddy that may or may not have happened. Then there’s that full-government name check he received courtesy of rap crony Kendrick Lamar on Big Sean’s “Control.”
In a recent interview with Noisey, Jermaine addressed the latter, keeping his thoughts on the Compton kid’s fiery verse short and sweet.
“That’s rap, man. That’s rap music,” he said. “That’s a part of the game. It’s natural. It’s fine.”
He also spoke about the success of his sophomore effort Born Sinner and pushing more units than Kanye West.
“I only get brief moments to appreciate things. I might get a two minute thought of like, ‘Wow, you really did sell more than Kanye,” he said. “You currently have sold more records than Kanye West’s album, which came out the same day.’ Then I’m back to focusing on what’s next.”
