Jay-Z let his #NewRules do the talking as his twelfth studio album demolished Spotify records.
Magna Carta Holy Grail was released exclusively to a million Samsung users July 4. Five days later, Spotify users streamed the album in full, helping Hov achieve the biggest first week for an album on the music platform. To further stroke Mr. Carter’s ego, the album had over 14 million streams in the U.S., besting recent releases from the likes of Daft Punk and collaborators Justin Timberlake and Kanye West.
Shawn also landed his first no. 1 in the U.K. and went platinum the day MCHG was released. —Alley Olivier
