Prolific Saxophone player Red Holloway was pronounced dead on Saturday from kidney failure and a series of complications from strokes.
At 84 years old, Holloway's epic contributions came from the big band era. Playing blues, bebop, R&B and modern jazz, the jazz guru performed alongside greats such as Billie Holiday, B.B. King, Lionel Hampton and Aretha Franklin.
Holloway was touring around the world shortly before his death, with another scheduled performance in L.A. postponed for this Spring.
A ceremony will be held for Holloway sometime this spring at the Los Angeles Musician's Union. --Jolie Sanchez
