On the latest episode of Movies With Milan, VIBE sit down with the cast of The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. The film tells the story of two inner city kids left to fend for themselves on the streets. The film premiered at Sundance this January and stars Jennifer Hudson, who steps out of her comfort zone to play a heroin-addict mother. Her transformation is uncanny, while the friendship between best pals Mister (played by Skylan Brooks) and Pete (Ethan Dizon) is an inspiration.
While Hudson brings darkness to her role, fellow R&B chanteuse Jordin Sparks brings the light as Alice, Mister's former neighbor, who swoops in with some words of advice in director George Tillman Jr.'s film.
While it’s hard to ignore the presence of the film’s famous singers – Alicia Keys also scored and executive produced the flick – it is its young stars that steal the show.
"The underlying message of this entire film is friendship, and knowing that we cannot do it alone," says Hudson. “We all need somebody.”
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is in theaters Oct. 11.
