Oscar-winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson is letting her voice be heard as the wife of legendary activist Nelson Mandela, played by Terrence Howard, in the new biopic Winnie Mandela. The film depicts Winnie's story from childhood to becoming Nelson's leading lady, even through his political incarceration and eventually taking on the anti-apartheid movement solo against the South African state.
Though filmed in spring 2010 and opened to a weak response at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, the movie reemerges in timely fashion as South Africa's first Black president faces health problems. Hudson will also grace the big screen opposite Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett in the drama musical Black Nativity, set to drop in November. Watch the Winnie Mandela trailer above.
