Mariah Carey's most elusive album yet escaped big numbers in first week sales on the charts (she brought in 58k). Still, her right-hand music man, Jermaine Dupri, isn't discouraged.
RapUp caught up with JD at the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards, where he was an honoreee, and got his thoughts on Mimi's numbers for her LP I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse.
“It’s like the first-week sales sometimes don’t really matter,” said the SoSo Def CEO, making examples of previous proteges Kris Kross and Bow Wow, who experienced had low album sales the first week but went on to surpass platinum status. “I think people gotta start understanding. If you have a plan and you can put the plan in play, you just gotta keep livin’ it out.”
JD also dished on Jagged Edge's upcoming J.E. Heartbreak 2 album, which is dropping this fall. Watch the full interview above.
