Jimmy Fallon Apologizes to Michele Bachmann For Roots' Song Choice

Jimmy Fallon Apologizes to Michele Bachmann For Roots' Song Choice

Posted November 23, 2011

Jimmy Fallon apologized to Michele Bachmann last night, via Twitter, for The Roots' song choice during her intro. “I’m honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I’m so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back,” he wrote. “Actually it was a really fun interview. She helped me with my Minnesota accent. (I still sound Irish.)."

The Roots chose the 1985 Fishbone song “Lyin’ A–s B—ch” as the Republican presidential candidate walked on set for her Late Night interview Monday. But if you know The Roots, then of course, you know they put some thought into their song choice.

?uestLove issued a statement saying, “The performance was a tongue-in-cheek and spur of the moment decision. The show was not aware of it and I feel bad if her feelings were hurt. That was not my intention.” Sounds PC but EW brought up a good point:

That last sentence is debatable, of course, since before the show aired, he tweeted, “aight late night walkon song devotees: you love it when we snark: this next one takes the cake. ask around cause i aint tweeting title.”

Hmmm...

Again, if you know The Roots, then you know they put some thought into the song--whether good or bad.

Bachmann has not responded, but Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey issued a statement criticizing the show: “The choice of song to introduce Michele Bachmann on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night was insulting and inappropriate. I do not share Michele Bachmann’s politics, but she deserves to be treated with respect. No female politician — and no woman — should be subjected to sexist and offensive innuendo like she was last night. The Roots, Jimmy Fallon, and NBC should apologize.”

Wait, why is a Democratic Congresswoman who had nothing to do with it injecting her opinion? That should be for Bachmann's camp to release a statement if they feel the need, which they probably don't hence the crickets. Politicians should be built for things like this and if not then...they need to take a seat (no pun intended).

Do you think this was that big of a deal?
