With luxury street ballads like "Magnificent" and "Rich Forever" in their catalog, John Legend and Rick Ross' friendship is deeper than rap.
After contributing to the Bawse's tracklist on numerous occasions, Legend recruited Rozay for the headliner track on his forthcoming album Love In The Future. "Who Do We Think We Are," a smooth rhetorical R&B record that fits a primetime dream sequence, was birthed two years ago.
"Kanye brought me the track and it was actually [produced] by Bink!," Legend told VIBE on the set of "Who Do We Think We Are" video shoot. "After I had written my part, I felt like if anything, Rozay should be on this album, this [song] is it. It just naturally fits his voice, style and persona. I been on so many of his records and mixtapes that he actually never did none of mine, and it's great to finally have him on my album."
Even the Maybach Music Group CEO was eager to hop on the track, praising the "Green Light" crooner for his quality street music. "The music John makes is top-shelf and whenever he collaborates with the streets, it's always timeless," said Ross, who got straight to work once the track was in his hands. "When they played me the production, I was most definitely excited. I handled that right there."
Legend then let the track marinate, going on tour and getting engaged to supermodel Chrissy Teigen before eventually throwing the classic Jean Knight record "Mr. Big Stuff" into the mix. "It was one of the songs that made me feel like, OK we got an album started and so it's a perfect song to lead off the album with."
