Today, Jordan Brand held an exclusive event in New York City for media types, players in the Jordan Brand Classic and others on an invite only list to debut the newest version in the Air Jordan lineage, the Air Jordan XX9. The new features on the XX9 position the shoe to become a standout in the brands long line of excellence. Seriously, this might be the shoe that speaks to the evolution of where the game is headed.
The XX9 takes a point from the Kobe 9 Elite, which featured the FlyKnit material on the upper part of the shoe. Something that had yet to be done on a basketball shoe. The only problem was the FlyKnit material is meant more for running than basketball. These new Air Jordans have the first ever performance-woven upper, in addition to a redesigned Flight Plate, a feature we saw on the latest Carmelo Anthony M10’s, and a few other items that make this shoe A+.
There are rumblings that Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook might be the first in the Air Jordan family to debut the new shoes in the playoffs, but you’ll have to wait until September of this year to cop a pair.
