Justin Bieber on His New Music Being Hip-Hop Influenced: "That’s Where All The Swag Comes From"

Justin Bieber on His New Music Being Hip-Hop Influenced: "That’s Where All The Swag Comes From"

Posted April 4, 2012

Justin Bieber called into Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday morning (April 3) to discuss his musical transition, recent collaborations and more.

“I just wanted to make something that was funky, but also something that my fans would like, and also something that I could branch out and get some older audience members,” he said of his Mike Posner-produced single “Boyfriend.”

Justin’s also been working with Timbaland, Pharrell and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, all of whose work will appear on his upcoming Believe.

The Biebs said of his latest urban approach, “You have to pull from the hip-hop community, because that’s where all the swag comes from, [but] I’m not gonna try to go all the way there. I’m going halfway.”

“We’re taking you first round and we’re giving you Justin Timberlake’s old locker,” Charlamagne Tha God joked.
