Apparently, Justin Bieber knew that someone was threatening to release footage of him saying a racist joke on camera, and was the victim of a million dollar shakedown.
According to TMZ, an unidentified man first asked for a million dollars for the video, then $800k and finally $500k when Bieber's team refused each time.
“As a kid, I didn't understand the power of certain words and how they can hurt. I thought it was ok to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but didn't realize at the time that it wasn't funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance," Bieber said via a official statement after the man leaked the video. "Thanks to friends and family I learned from my mistakes and grew up and apologized for those wrongs. Now that these mistakes from the past have become public I need to apologize again to all those I have offended. I'm very sorry. "
Celebs like Floyd Mayweather have stood by him during the scandal.
