It was a mournful family trip for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on Saturday (August 17) as the couple took their two-month old daughter across state lines trip this weekend to Oklahoma to attend the funeral for West's grandfather, Portwood Williams Sr., who died at age 98 on August 10, Us Weekly reports.
West's grandfather, a veteran of Oklahoma's civil rights sit-ins of the 1950s, helped to desegregate lunch counters. He also played a big role in Yeezy's life, Williams first met Kim in February and was immediately in awe of the reality star.
"She is beautiful, and she's just as sweet as she is beautiful, and that's what I liked about her!" Williams Sr. told The New York Daily News earlier this year. "She was just down to earth, she's rich, and those kinds of people, they've got everything."
It explains the couple's absence from Kim's younger sister Kylie Jenner's Sweet 16 that also took place this weekend.
Although the family trekked to Oklahoma to pay their final respects, it's doubtful Williams Sr. would have attended their wedding ceremony.
"I don't do weddings," he said. "I don't like weddings. You spend a lot of money, then in a few weeks, you're separated!"--Andrew Asare
