Kevin Hart Talks Celebrity All-Star MVP And ‘About Last Night’

/ February 15, 2014

Kevin Hart doesn’t want to talk about slowing down.

The superstar comedian has become an omnipresent force within the entertainment biz. So much so that it is nearly impossible to escape the man. Case in point: Hart, who hit theaters Friday (Feb. 14) headlining a remake of the 1986 romantic comedy classic About Last Night, also fancies himself as a top notch basketball talent. Never mind that the 5-foot-2 actor laughably picked up two highly dubious MVP awards in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Hart, who promised to get naked on court if he wins his third award, has documented his road to B-Ball immortality for YouTube.

Dubbed #3xMVP, the six-part online series was done in partnership with Verizon Wireless and shows Hart getting ready for last night’s big game, which took place in New Orleans’ Sprint Center at the NBA All-Star Jam Session.

“We wanted to do a viral campaign and do something funny,” Hart tells VIBE prior to the game (he was voted MVP, but ceded the honor to U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan). “Just me basically chasing my third MVP. We thought we could have some fun with it in terms of showing how I train, me getting hurt, but not really getting hurt. Just putting that whole fancy, spoiled brat attitude behind a guy who thinks he’s a real ball player. I think we captured that. I’m going for that third MVP!”

One thing that’s not funny is Hart’s status as Hollywood’s hottest commodity. The in-demand talent, who shocked Tinseltown after grossing over $100 million with the blockbuster buddy comedy Ride Along, will once again be competing for ticket sales with the aforementioned About Last Night. And according to Hart, the new version, which co-stars Regina Hall and Michael Ealy, raises the proverbial bar in sexual humor.

“We decided to raise the stakes by modernizing the movie,” Hart explains of the film, which originally starred Rob Lowe and Demi Moore. “We got a little more edgy. We are rated-R, but we earned our rated-R. I’m having a lot of sex in this movie, which is great [laughs]. From the personalities that are in it to the level that each actor goes through, our About Last Night is literally separating itself from other romantic comedies that have been done. We are addressing things in such a real authentic way. I think couples are going to be able to relate to it in a very real way.”—Keith Murphy (@murphdogg29)
