South Korea officials are reporting that leader Kim Jong Un and his wife had a baby.
According to Fox News, the child was born in secret late last year. While the gender of the newborn is unknown, the possible fourth-generation heir to the throne is believed to be a baby girl.
“If it was a boy, [the North Koreans] would have made an announcement,” Michael Madden, editor of the online newsletter North Korea Leadership Watch, told the Washington Free Beacon.
Official photos that showed what appeared to be a baby bump sparked rumors that Kim's wife, Ri Sol-Ju, was pregnant. She is reportedly a singer in her late 20's who met Kim in 2010 and has a significant influence on her husband. He became leader when his father Kim Jong II died in 2011 after a nearly two-decade reign.
The birth of Kim's baby comes at a time where the dictatorship in Pyongyang has transitioned from a Soviet-installed Marxist-Leninist regime to a ruling communist Workers Party that shares power with a military clique.
But the new father, who has been recently spotted hanging out with basketball star Dennis Rodman, apparently wants to make peace with the US. On Sunday (March 3), Rodman praised the dictator on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos and said that Kim wanted President Obama to call him.
“He said, ‘If you can, Dennis – I don’t want [to] do war," Rodman told ABC News. "I don’t want to do war.’ He said that to me."
