If the former "Saturday Night Live" comedianne joins the crazy cast of characters, she would play opposite Steve Carell, as a love interest in the sequel. The script is still being written, and no cast beyond the principals has been set.
Longtime producer and collaborator Adam McKay ("Step Brothers") is stepping into direct the feature, which is being produced by Judd Apatow and his Apatow Productions banner. Wiig has instantly become one of the most in-demand funny ladies in Hollywood since appearing in the film "Bridesmaids." She can be currently seen at the Toronto International Film Festival in the indie feature "Imogene," and has been in the lab working on a number of titles, including "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," and "Hateship Friendship," with Guy Pearce.
"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" is slated for an October 2013 release and will mark the return of the original film's cast, including the aforementioned Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Rob Corddry and Steve Carell. The story will follow the on-set adventures of San Diego's top newsman who is played by Ferrell.
