It's no surprise that Lauryn Hill is one of the most anti-establishment rappers you'll meet. The hip-hop icon shared her thoughts on reverse racism on Thursday (June 28), just days before she heads to prison for tax evasion.
“The concept of reverse racism is flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous,” Hill wrote in a lengthy Tumblr post. “Most, if not all of the negative responses from people of color toward white people, are reactions to the hatred, violence, cruelty and brutality that they were shown by white people for centuries.”
Referencing her tax evasion case, Ms. Hill further related it to the the struggle of black Americans. “I shuddered during sentencing when I kept hearing the term ‘make the IRS whole’… make the IRS whole, knowing that I got into these very circumstances having to deal with the very energies of inequity and resistance that created and perpetuated these savage inequalities.”
Hill, sentenced to three months in prison, was recently under fire for her latest single, “Neurotic Society,” where she references homosexuality as having a negative impact on society. –Nina Marrissa (@NinaMarrissa)
