Legendary soul singer Etta James has died at the age of 73
after battling Leukemia since 2010. According to her manager, Lupe De Leon, James passed away due to complications from the disease at a hospital in Riverside, California. Her husband and sons were at her bedside.
The songstress, who stole listener’s hearts with her smooth sounds on hits such as the wedding classic “At Last,” would have celebrated her 74th birthday this Wednesday.
"This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world," De Leon told CNN. "She was a true original who could sing it all -- her music defied category. “ “I worked with Etta for over 30 years,” said De Leon. She was my friend and I will miss her always."
The singer, who also suffered from dementia and hepatitis C, overcame an addiction to heroin and had a long-lasting music career as a six-time Grammy award winner and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. James is at peace, at last. --Jazmine Gray
