Leona Lewis was taken to the hospital Wednesday (October 14) after an unprovoked attack from an unidentified man.
Lewis was making a book-signing appearance in London when a man suddenly walked up to the singer and physically assaulted her by punching and slapping her before a crowd of onlookers.
"Leona was the victim of an unprovoked attack," a rep for the singer said in a statement. "The police were called immediately and medical attention has been sought. Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings."
The incident occurred at Waterstone's Piccadilly Circus bookstore. That same day, police arrested a 29-year-old male suspect. Lewis, who was captured in pictures after the incident sobbing, was taken to the hospital immediately after the assault. --Linda Hobbs
