It may not seem as taboo anymore for a man to come out as an openly gay individual, but when you're talking sports, the atmosphere is thick with homophobia. President and Chief Executive of the Phoenix Suns, Rick Welts, doesn't give two damns though.
The 58-year-old recently announced his sexuality as a way to perforate the silence regarding the LGGBT community when it comes to national sports. “This is one of the last industries where the subject is off limits,” said Mr. Welts, who is the first of any employed man in the men's sports industry to come out as a gay. “Nobody’s comfortable in engaging in a conversation.”
Keep it coming.
