“We Takin’ Over” (feat. Akon, T.I. , Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Birdman, and Lil Wayne)
Khaled Says: One of my most memorable sessions—it was a few sessions, actually. I can still remember how I got Weezy on it. I presented the beat to him one day and he knocked out like 10 other records right there in front of me. Then he pulls up mine and knocks it out in minutes. There was so much smoke in the air, like a movie set. I played him the “We Takin Over” beat but it didn’t have the hook yet. I wanted to bring it back with a concept. After he heard the finished version, Weezy was like “Khaled I’m go in the closet and go see the Boogie Monster.” [laughs]. I came back an hour later after lunch and it was done. “I am the beast/ feed me rappers/or feed me beats!” He always amazes me when I’m around him. That was one of the biggest records of the year.
I was also in the studio with T.I. for that record. He really wanted it for his album, so we were going back and forth for a while. I just couldn’t give that record away. But I finally bumped into him again in Atlanta after a few weeks. We go to the studio and Tip must of drank like five Heniekens before knocking it out so fast. Five minutes, tops. I think I bring a certain energy when we’re together.
I also remember being with Ross to lay his verse. He was with, like, 100 goons, just wildin’ out in the studio. And I’m the only one really paying attention to what he’s saying. When he comes out and I play the verse, the whole entire studio lost their minds.
