Alicia Keys debuted a new and very introspective track from her forthcoming Girl on Fire LP on Friday (Sept. 28) night. In London for the iTunes Festival, Keys performed the newbie "Brand New Me" amongst fan favorites during her set.
The breathy, piano-heavy track was written with Scottish singer Emeli Sandé. Keys introduced the song by referring to it as "my autobiography."
“I don’t need your opinion, I’m not waiting for your okay/ I’ll never be perfect, but at least now I’m brave. Now my heart is open, and I can finally breathe/ Don’t be mad, it’s just a brand new kinda free. That ain’t bad–I found a brand new kinda me/ Don’t be mad, it’s just a brand new time for me.”
Girl on Fire, Keys' fifth album, is set for release on Nov. 27. In addition to "Brand New Me," three other tracks from the album have hit the Net -- the album's lead single and title track, "Not Even the King" and "A Place of My Own." Spin "Brand New Me" below.
