"Love Inc," the new single from Berlin-based veterans Booka Shade, opens with sounds of nature that morph into a sad synth line and gets sprinkled with a spoken meditation on love before a mid-tempo syncopated beat kicks in. As "Love Inc" bumps along, a hook drops in that sounds like Joi Cardwell asking " Say, are you happy" on Lil Louis's "Club Lonely" – itself a melancholy dance floor classic. At various points, "Love Inc" breaks down in ebbing synth washes that run as deep as tides and sparkle like ocean spray.
If this is just a preview of things to come on the new album, Eve, it is safe to say that Booka Shade made the right choice in holing up in Manchester's Eve Studios, a halfway house of sorts where musicians can live, play and have their unfettered way with throwback gear. Booka Shade have held fast to the idea of "two hands" in their recording and performance. This time around, other hands on deck include Azari & III's Fritz Helder, Groove Armada's Andy Cato, and Fritz Kalkbrenner.
Eve drops on digital and vinyl/cd November 1st and 5th via Embassy One records. The CD version will include a continuous mix featuring tracks from the album. Mixes for "Love Inc" are on the way from Emperor Machine, Richie G, and Hot Since 82. For now, stream the original track, out October 4th on Beatport, after the jump.
