We are in the year where an artist’s newest release will either sink or swim. Gone are the days when a DJ-producer could rest on the success of past projects to justify the mediocrity and musical predictability of a future record. Dance music is a buffet of options that NYC-based artist, SAV, is not afraid to try.
Today marks the release of SAV’s sophomore EP, 'You Are Not The Father!' – the title is inspired by his “fascination” with The Maury Show. SAV states that he wanted to create something as “formulaic” as The Maury Show – but via the production of a record, of course. Despite of the cheesy title, there is nothing tawdry about the four tracks on this EP. “FOK Me” is a Dutch house track that is a surefire staple of the summer and a certifiable club banger that would make Chuckie proud. “Te Amo” is a moombahton collaboration with Sound Wavve featuring Happy Colors (partnered with SAV on the debut Good Times EP). “Live Long” is a sultry collaborative track with Big Kid Xavier and songstress MoXiie that hosts dirty Dutch synths and sexy vocals. “Work It (VIP Edit),” the electro house finish to the EP, gives us a tasteful amount of vibrating bass lines, pulsating riffs, and cowbell (yes!) all while admonishing us to “make it clap.”
